BTW, it's NOT the Evolution model but the next one down. I think you said it best. When Mitsubishi brought over the Evo, they knew that because of its heritage, it would reel in profits. So knowing the market for the Evo, the markups would be crazy. So what to do? Not everybody can afford an Evo at its current dealer markups, so they brought along the Lancer. It looks like an Evo, without all the fancy-schmancy stuff that makes the Evo what it is. The Lancer, then is a marketing ploy for the Evo-wannabe's that can't afford the Evo. The Lancer is the tamer, more civilized Evo sister. Lancer is to Evo what Civic DX is to Civic Si. It is here for those who want but can't. If she thinks it's cute and that's all that she (or you both) can afford, get it. If she wants power, then none other than the Evo will do. But if you want to talk realiability, Mitsubishi ranks relatively lower (than even Ford and Mazda) by JD Powers. BTW, most magazines will state that the Lancer is like an underpowered Evo.
